Состоит из головного убора с квадратным верхом [cap], мантии [gown; graduation gown] и накидки [hood], надеваемой поверх мантии. Различным областям знаний соответствуют определенные цвета костюмов: Arts, Letters, Humanities (white) - гуманитарные дисциплины (белый); Commerce, Accountancy, Business (drab) - коммерция, бухгалтерия, бизнес (бледно-коричневый); Economics (copper) - экономика (медно-рыжий); Engineering (orange) - инженерные специальности (оранжевый); Journalism (crimson) - журналистика (малиновый); Law (purple) - право (фиолетовый); Medicine (green) - медицина (зеленый); Oratory (Speech) (silver gray) - ораторское искусство (серебристо-серый); Philosophy (dark blue) - философия (темно-синий); Physical Education (sage green) - физвоспитание (защитного цвета); Public Administration including Foreign Service (peacock blue) - государственная администрация и международные отношения (электрик); Science (golden yellow) - точные науки (золотистый); Theology (scarlet) - теология (алый); Veterinary service (gray) - ветеринария (серый) и др.
